Abstract : The epidemiological data about alcohol consumption show that the current preventive measures have their limits. Worryingly, the morbidity and mortality associated remain significant in the world. Two main types of preventive approaches, based on individual affect exist: the negative approach based on fear and threat and the so-called Social Norm Approach (SNA). The last original and more positive approach has been used across the Atlantic for thirty years and shows to be efficient. It aims to reduce an individual’s consumption of addictive substance by confronting his own social norm (what he thinks people drink, quantities generally overestimated) to the real norm of consumption by a reference social group. A cross-border project is currently evaluating the feasibility of this approach in the Euregio Meuse-Rhin.
