Rev Med Liege 2012, 67(7-8),413-419Abstract : Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) is a condition with complicated clinical presentation. An estimated 1% of the population is affected before the age of 40, with 0.1% affected prior to the age of 30. There are many causes of POI: genetic aberrations, auto-immune ovarian damage, iatrogenic factors following surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, environmental factors (viruses, toxins, smoking) and metabolic. The majo-rity of POF cases have idiopathic etiologies.
