Abstract : The occurrence of a syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) with sodium valproate has been rarely described in the literature. We present a 46-year-old patient, admitted to the Emergency Room for confusion and acute agitation. The exploration showed a severe hyponatraemia induced by sodium valproate, prescribed for a type I bipolar disorder. This article addresses both somatic and psychiatric issues in the differential diagnosis of confusion and agitation.
